in the community

Check out some of the great Charlotte organizations we’ve partnered with recently!

The Lunch Project

If you bought one of The Lunch Project’s beautiful African Maasai tribe star ornaments this holiday season at Ruby’s Gift, here's where your donation went! A big thanks to The Lunch Project!

The Lunch Project is a Charlotte-based organization with the goal of providing long-term financial support to enable Tanzanian mothers to cook and serve a nutritional meal to school children in Lamenyanta Primary School in Arusha, Tanzania.

Donations to The Lunch Project also provide educational opportunities to families about philanthropy. The Lunch Project provides hope, love and a sense of community, one bowl at a time.
Project Art Aid “Goes Pink”

Project Art Aid 'Goes Pink' at Ruby's Gift!

Project Art Aid is a community based organization of artists working in solidarity to address the needs of local and global communities.

Ruby’s Gift partnered with Project Art Aid to support the American Cancer Society's ‘Making Strides Against Breast Cancer’ Campaign. In October, 2011 our Selwyn Ave. store displayed a 100-square mosaic heart created by more than 100 area artists and cancer survivors, and hosted a silent auction fundraiser.

And both of our stores presented individual, original works donated by area artists with all of the proceeds going directly to the American Cancer Society.
UMAR Arts Center

Located right around the corner from our NoDa store location, the UMAR Arts Center is a full-time program teaching various forms of art to adults with disabilities. Program participants gain skills in their chosen art mediums and receive critical job training.

In July 2011, Ruby’s Gift hosted a month-long show and sale of UMAR’s works in our NoDa store. Proceeds from the paintings, photos, drawings, decorative flower pots, jewelry & dyed scarves - all created by the talented adults with developmental disabilities from the UMAR Arts Center - go to fund the program costs and provide a means of income for the participants.
